Drawers for Online-Volunteering in Germany
Some weeks ago +Jayne Cravens asked me to have a look to her wiki about internet-mediated volunteering in the EU (http://ow.ly/nqpv5). I’ve had and added some more German initiatives and projects that work regulary with online-volunteers.
In Germany we have some organizations that are working sporadically — sometimes a bit more — with online-volunteers. But just a few of them have a online-volunteer program by now. However!
The problem with that wild growth of practises is that one really fast loose the overview. So I tryed to typify the organizations that I know working with online-voluteers. In the end there was a table with five types and some examples ….
(1) Crowd-Engagement Programs: Programs with a permanent availability of production resources (such as knowledge and tools) that aims to involve ‚the crowd‘ via ICT (e.g. Wheelmap.org)
(2) Campaign Oriented Organizations: Organizations that try to produce buzz through the Internet to achieve social change in their sense (e.g. Digitale Gesellschaft)
(3) Social Media Entrepreneurs: Groups of web affine people who use the Internet and Social Media tools to spread and scale solutions that were developed by their own or together with a supporters community. (e.g. 2aid.org)
(4) Estabished Volunteer Organizations: Organizations that are working with volunteers since decades and try now to involve also online-volunteers. (e.g. Caritas with [u25] and Mein PlanB)
(5) Institutionally Linked Initiatives: Initiatives that works mainly promoted by government and involves volunteers in a quite smal varity (e.g. only online mentors by CyberMentor.de)
