Like I promised at the end of my workshop: Here you can see my slides …
At first we spoke about the Definition of Online-Volunteering. It’s always important to do that to avoid misunderstandings about the special volunteer field. Sometimes people think the term Online-Volunteering means only to match volunteers via the internet. But this is only one part of this new way to volunteer.
During the second part we spoke about the essential questions what volunteers are able to do via the internet, why any organization should involve volunteers via the internet and just why anybody should serve online. I think we answered these questions well. Altogether we were able to fix, that organisations that invest money and time in the communication via the internet enlarge their effects in a significant way.
At the end of the workshop we discussed some questions of the daily practise of working with volunteers all over europe. Here some questions we discussed (please feel free to add what I forgot in the comments):
How to find volunteers that are able and willing to serve via the internet? How to argue against the loosing-control-throw-ins of the public relation stuff members? How to look after the volunteers that’s not personally in the organisation? What’s about the data and IT security when strangers have access to it? …
Altogether, I think, it was a very good workshop even if we were interrupted by the radio of Sarajevo.
